ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL –
A single fire sprinkler stopped a fire from spreading at a paper recycling and shredding company. When crews arrived, they found moderate smoke and followed the sound of the activated sprinkler to the source of the fire. The area where the fire occurred contained large bundles and pallets of paper. Firefighters used their lines to make sure all hot spots were extinguished.

According to Fire Marshal Jason Staidl, Elk Grove Village Fire Department, without fire sprinklers, the building and all of its contents could have been a total loss. Instead, damages were held to a minimum and there was no disruption in business operations. No injuries were reported.
