INSPECTION, TESTING & MAINTENANCE
Inspect to Protect Buildings & Occupants
Illinois state code, NFPA 101: Life Safety Code (2015 edition) requires that all automatic fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, and fire pumps must follow inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) procedures according to the NFPA 25 standard.
And in accordance with state law (225 ILCS 317/17), building owners must utilize a fire sprinkler inspector who is employed by a state-licensed fire sprinkler contractor. NEW IN 2024: All inspectors must be in possession of an individual Fire Sprinkler Inspector license issued by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal. This license ensures that the individual has been vetted by OSFM to have met the necessary qualifications* for such work. Do not allow any individual to service a fire sprinkler system in your community/building without the proper state license.
*Individuals possessing Fire Sprinkler Inspector licenses have been confirmed by OSFM to be employed by a licensed fire sprinkler contractor and have met qualifications through completion of a certified sprinkler fitter apprenticeship program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor and/or certification through NICET Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems (Level III); ASSE 15010 Water-Based Fire Protection; or NFPA Water-Based Fire Protection System Inspection, Testing & Maintenance (WBITM).
Your building’s fire sprinkler system must be inspected, tested, and maintained to ensure it will operate properly during a fire.
Fire sprinklers provide the greatest fire protection for your building. They control a fire while it’s still small and allow occupants to safely escape.
However, just like other systems in your building, it’s essential that a fire sprinkler system is inspected, tested, and maintained (ITM), especially since lives and your investment are dependent on it.
Don’t let a devastating fire happen in your building. Comply with state requirements by incorporating a regular fire sprinkler system ITM program in your building.
Verify that each fire sprinkler system in your community is inspected, tested, and maintained to ensure it will operate properly during a fire.
