Fire Sprinkler Extinguishes Apartment Stove Fire

CHAMPAIGN, IL – A single fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in a unit on the second floor of an apartment building. The fire may have been caused by a single-burner butane stove that did not operate correctly.
According to Deputy Fire Marshal Jeremy Mitchell, the damage was limited to the stove and adjacent content.

Fire Sprinklers Control Fire at Printing Plant

EFFINGHAM, IL – Fire sprinklers kept a fire from spreading in a printing press machine at the 3Z Printing Plant. Firefighters arrived to find smoke from the building and sprinklers keeping the fire in check. Crews were able to extinguish the remaining fire. No injuries were reported.

Fire Sprinkler Controls Apartment Closet Fire
September 16, 2023
LAKE ZURICH, IL – A single fire sprinkler stopped a fire from spreading in a 10’ x 12’ apartment unit closet. According to Deputy Fire Marshal John Wiecek, Lake Zurich Fire Department, several cardboard boxes and clothes were in the closet. A single sprinkler kept the fire from spreading. A police officer also used a fire extinguisher.
One resident suffered minor eye irritation and inhaled some smoke.

Fire Sprinkler Controls Restaurant Fire at Six Flags Great America
September 14, 2023
GURNEE, IL – A fire sprinkler located in the attic of a restaurant at Six Flags Great America stopped a fire from spreading. The fire was running up the outside walls and travelled into the eaves and attic activating the sprinkler. When crews arrived, they extinguished the remaining fire.
The park was closed at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

Fire Sprinkler Extinguishes Fire at a Family Entertainment Center

MOLINE, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire at the QC Family Entertainment Center. When firefighters arrived, they located the location of the fire and found the sprinkler had extinguished a fire.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Fire Sprinkler Extinguished a fire at Kenny’s Westside Pub

PEORIA, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in the kitchen of Kenny’s Westside Pub. When the fire department arrived, two employees were outside and said there was a fire in the kitchen, but it was extinguished by the fire sprinkler.
No injuries were reported. The damage was estimated at $15,000. The business was expected to open after clean up.

Sprinklers Hold Floor Cleaning Machine Fire in Check

BENSENVILLE, IL – Fire Sprinklers held a fire in check at International Golden Foods. When crews arrived, they found a floor cleaning machine was on fire and smoke throughout the building. The sprinklers held the fire in check, firefighters were able to extinguish the remaining fire.
No one was working at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

WAUCONDA, IL – A single fire sprinkler stopped a fire from spreading in the kitchen of a second floor unit in a senior living apartment building. When crews arrived, they found a sprinkler controlling the fire and were able to extinguish the remaining fire and safely evacuate residents. The cause of fire was unattended cooking,
“The importance of the sprinkler system in this case is vital as it did not allow the fire to grow in size and aided in the assistance of extinguishing the fire,” Wauconda Fire District Division Chief DaValle said.
The Wauconda Fire District would like to remind residents to not leave cooking unattended. Five people were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Fire Sprinklers Control Car Fire in Apartment Garage
July 15, 2023
DES PLAINES, IL – Two fire sprinklers held a car fire in check in an apartment garage until the fire department arrived.
According to Des Plaines Fire Chief Dan Anderson, two sprinklers activated over the vehicle. That set off the building’s audible alarms notifying the occupants.
“The fire alarm system and sprinkler system worked exactly as they were supposed to.” Anderson said. “The fire was confined to the vehicle preventing extension to the building or other vehicles. The bulk of the damage was to the vehicle itself.”
Two residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation and one requested transport. The vehicle was removed and building management worked to get the fire alarm and sprinkler system back into service. Occupants were able to return to their units two hours after the fire was reported.

Fire Sprinklers Extinguish House Fire

GLEN ELLYN, IL – Fire sprinklers extinguished a fire on the second floor of a single-family home. According to Glen Ellyn Fire Chief Chris Clark, firefighters entered the building, made their way to the location of the fire and found two sprinklers extinguished a fire caused by a clothes dryer. No injuries were reported.
Glen Ellyn has required fire sprinklers in all new homes since 2002.
