CHICAGO, IL – Fire sprinklers controlled a fire at the Ardagh Metal Beverage manufacturing facility. It was reported that insulation was burning inside the large industrial facility activating the sprinklers. No injuries were reported.

MACOMB, IL – Fire sprinklers helped contain a fire inside a trash chute at Western Illinois University’s Thompson Hall. When crews arrived, they made their way to the basement to extinguish the fire inside the chute. No injuries were reported.

HODGKINS, IL – Fire sprinklers extinguished a fire at the Waste Management warehouse. The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

CHICAGO, IL – Fire sprinklers extinguished a fire on the 16th floor of the Daley Center in downtown Chicago before fire crews arrived. Building officials said the fire started after a water cooler apparently imploded. This success story is thanks to the March 2012 completion of a fire sprinkler system retrofit of the landmark public building, which has been featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Blues Brothers. No injuries were reported.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Fire sprinklers extinguished a fire inside the Solomon Colors Headquarters and Manufacturing Plant. Firefighters requested a hazmat response due to the large amount of flammable materials stored in the building. Crews did ventilate the building while hazmat crews tested the air and water quality and found all levels to be normal.

LAKE FOREST, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire at the Walter Payton Center. Lake Forest fire crews reported that a fully-involved furnace fire on the second floor was extinguished when they arrived. Football practice was underway, but was moved outdoors because of the fire. No injuries were reported.

HAWTHORN WOODS, IL – A single fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in a basement kitchen at St. Matthew Church and School. The fire was caused by a pot of oil that ignited on a stove. According to Bob Kleinheinz, Lake Zurich Fire Department, the sprinkler saved this historic church and school by extinguishing a fire in the basement. It also allowed firefighters to do their job without injury. No injuries were reported.

DEKALB, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in a student apartment at Northern Illinois University. When crews from the DeKalb Fire Department arrived, they found a sprinkler extinguished a fire in the bathroom. Officials said the fire started on the stovetop in the kitchen. An occupant moved the burning material into the bathroom. No injuries were reported.

GALESBURG, IL – Fire sprinklers contained a fire in a 200,000 sq. ft. warehouse. When crews from the Galesburg Fire Department arrived, they found heavy smoke. Using a thermal imaging camera, they located the fire in a large self-contained trash compactor. Fire sprinklers contained the fire, stopping it from spreading through the warehouse. No injuries were reported.
