HUNTLEY, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in a single-story residential complex. A medical pendant alarm alerted the Huntley Fire Protection District of the fire. Crews arrived and found light smoke and the fire extinguished by a sprinkler. One person was transported to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Skokie, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a closet fire in a 9^th floor apartment unit of a 20-story high-rise building. The Skokie Fire Department was notified that there was smoke and fire on the 9^th floor of the Optima Old Orchard Woods apartments. When they arrived on the scene, they confirmed that a single fire sprinkler extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

BURR RIDGE, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a bathroom fire in one of the guest rooms at the Extended Stay Suites hotel.  The fire was caused by a malfunctioning light fixture that spread to items on the sink counter.

Howard Hoffman, Inspector/Investigator, Tri-State Fire Protection District said it was fortunate that the bathroom in this hotel was protected with fire sprinklers.

No injuries were reported.

NAPERVILLE, IL – A fire sprinkler controlled a fire on the second floor of a multifamily residence where most of the occupants have disabilities. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they encountered heavy smoke from a second-floor unit. Crews found an activated sprinkler in the unit that stopped the fire from spreading.  Twenty-nine residents were in the building at the time of the fire.

The fire is still under investigation and no injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.

KANKAKEE, IL – A fire sprinkler extinguished a fire in the production area of the AHF Armstrong flooring plant. The building was being evacuated when firefighters arrived at the scene.

No injuries were reported and no damage to equipment.  The plant resumed production that afternoon.
