DEER PARK, IL – A single fire sprinkler extinguished a fire inside a two-car garage attached to a townhome. The fire started inside a garbage can that was inside the garage. The sprinkler extinguished the fire before crews arrived.

According to Fire Prevention Specialist Bob Kleinheinz, Lake Zurich Fire Department, the activation demonstrates the power of a single sprinkler. Water from the sprinkler covered a 20-foot area.  An alarm woke the residents allowing them to safely evacuate. They were able to stay in the home after the crew determined it was safe. About five million dollars in damages was prevented thanks to the sprinkler. No injuries were reported.

ROMEOVILLE, IL – Fire sprinklers controlled a fire inside the wood shop classroom at Romeoville High School. Crews arrived to find some smoldering material that was held in check by the sprinklers. The cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported.

WOODRIDGE, IL – Fire sprinklers prevented a kitchen fire from spreading at the Cedarhurst Senior Living facility until crews arrived. “Installed sprinkler systems are the most effective tool in our toolbox, as it relates to community risk reduction efforts” Fire Chief Keith Krestan added. No injuries were reported.

SKOKIE, IL – A single fire sprinkler held a fire in check inside a large warehouse preventing a potential major fire until fire crews arrived. Exterior roofing work caused a fire that burned through the roof and into the bowstring truss area inside the structure, causing the fire sprinkler to activate and sound the fire alarm to provide early warning to occupants.

According to the Skokie Fire Department, without a fire sprinkler system, the fire would have likely spread rapidly throughout the bowstring truss roof, causing significant damage to the building and extremely hazardous conditions for the occupants and firefighters. It was estimated that fire sprinklers saved about $3,000,000 in damages. The business was able to remain open with minimum damage. No injuries were reported.

ALSIP, IL – A single fire sprinkler prevented a car from igniting inside a townhouse garage. High heat temperatures from the running car activated the sprinkler before the car ignited. No injuries were reported.

DES PLAINES, IL – A single fire sprinkler prevented a fire from spreading on the second floor of a manufacturing facility. Crews found a sprinkler activated over buckets of sodium chlorite used in the plant. One employee was transported to the hospital with minor burns from the chemical fire. No other injuries were reported.
