NORMAL, IL – A single fire sprinkler stopped a fire from spreading in an apartment kitchen. Fire crews arrived and extinguished the remaining fire. No injuries were reported. Since the fire was contained, firefighters were able to help some of the kids in the neighborhood with quick bike maintenance. According to the Normal Fire Department, “Fire sprinklers don’t act like they do in movies. Only the sprinkler closest to the fire will activate because sprinklers are activated by heat only. The closest sprinkler pops and puts water on the fire, which keeps it in check until firefighters arrive and also allows the occupants time to escape.”
